About the event

Are we in Aotearoa planting the forests we actually want, in the long run?

For our second public talk of 2025, Ōtaki Carbon Forests is honoured to host Dr James Newman (Senior Advisor Research and Analysis) and Geoff Simmons (Chief Economist) from the Office of the Parliamentary Commission for the Environment.

Their kōrero will cover:

  • How current policies are shaping our forest estate

  • Which alternative forestry systems – including large-scale native afforestation and management regimes like continuous cover harvesting – could play a greater role in afforestation

  • The risks and benefits of some alternative forestry systems
